School Zone Changes

School Zone Lights Flashing All Day
Rusty Anderson

Moore Public Schools made the request earlier this summer to have school zone lights remain on from school arrival times through dismissal. The request was approved by the City of Moore, which manages the operation of school zone lights, and is supported by the Moore Police Department, which enforces traffic laws in these areas.

MPS’s initial request to adjust the times that school zone lights are turned on was made for the safety of our students and employees. In years past, we have had a student with special needs run from their teacher and outside their building. Thankfully, they were recovered before reaching the street, but we know that slower-moving vehicles during all school hours will lessen the chance of a student or an employee getting injured.

Additionally, school zone lights have been on multiple times each school day for the various half-day Pre-K arrival times. This adjustment eliminates those on-and-off times. This change begins on the first day of school for Moore Public Schools, Tues., Aug. 12.

MPS appreciates everyone paying close attention when driving near our schools on weekdays when school is in session. Families and community members should remember that speeding in school zones is a ticketable offense and remain observant of school zone lights near all schools from Monday through Friday. The lights are turned off during federal holidays and when students are out of school.
